WELL-BEING
My health coach turns 92
In praise of Fergus and pets everywhere
Fifteen years ago today this photo was removed from the website of an animal shelter in San Clemente, CA, because this little guy no longer was available for adoption.
The day before I had called my friend, Carol, who volunteered at the shelter, to ask how many applications were in for the pup named Brandon. She looked at this photo on her computer, laughed and said, "Seriously?" After phoning the shelter, she called me back in record time and said, "None."
Over the years he has been the best little sanity saver. Pets do that.
They make us walk and sometimes run.
They keep us limber with stretches to reach the litter box.
They assist with manual dexterity when a poop bag just won't open.
They improve our social skills while they improve their social skills at the dog park.
They lower blood pressure with something as simple as a belly rub, a butt rub and don't forget behind the ears.
They teach us about love.
Happy birthday, Fergus! You're still such a good boy.
